Concert to celebrate the Year for Priests

A concert was held in the Church on Sunday 8th November 2009 to commemorate the Year for Priests, proclaimed by Pope Benedict.  It was performed by the Choir of Our Most Holy Redeemer, the organist was Neil Wright and it was directed by David Bevan.

The music either had a priestly theme or was written by priests and included works such as Zadok the Priest (Handel), Dixit Dominus (Victoria), Ave Regina Caelorum (Felice Anerio), Virgo Prudentissima (Giovanni Anerio) and I Was Glad (Parry).  Sophie Bevan (soprano) sang Nulla in Mundo Pax Sincera (A. Vivaldi).

Archbishop Vincent Nichols and members of his household attended, it was the Archbishop’s first visit to our Church and he expressed his delight at the musical programme and our beautiful Church.

Parishioners joined Archbishop Vincent Nichols and Canon Michael Brockie for drinks and canapes in the Monckton Room afterwards.
